What I appreciate the most about Matt is his ability to look at both sides of an issue. He wants to understand the history of issues before moving forward with any kind of decision. When I first got on the City Council, Des Moines was near bankruptcy. The team I was with at the time moved us out of bankruptcy and toward sustainability. Matt has continued that forward momentum.
Council members need to understand issues facing the city front and back, and that isn’t learned overnight. Matt learned a great deal when he was on our Citizen’s Advisory Committee and has continued to learn being on our Police Department Committee.
I really appreciate his sense of balance. I am voting for Matt and hope you will, too!
